Extraordinary Grouper!!

Hello Everyone!

Every year, it seems we encounter at least one Nassau that appears different from any other we have seen before. Last year, it was a fish named Hula, who had a black belt-shaped pattern around the center of it’s body. The year before that was a grouper named, Lucky, who had a huge bite taken out of its back, yet appeared to be fully healed and happily partaking in the year’s spawning festivities. This year, we have found yet another Nassau that is unlike any we have encountered before. Take a look and let me know what you think!! We have not come up with a name for this grouper, so if you have a suggestion, feel free toIMG_0625

  1. Looks like Cooper the grouper came! The speckles are so pretty! You can really see the identifying features in this amazing picture. The big lips and the spiny dorsal fin are the biggest. I am just surprised to be the first to post a reply on the wonderful picture!

  2. The bottom half looks like a different fish! you should name him (or her) mermaid (or merman). By the by, are groupers fifty fifty ratio male to female, or are there more males then female? there seems to be more male at the spawning as far as I can tell.

    • I agree, Erika. However, I don’t actually know the answer to that question. It would be a good one to ask during today’s live video feed!

  3. Why is half of the fish A darker color and the rest a lighter color, is it in one of the fazes or is it just a shadow, i cant really tell from the picture.
